Hillmaru Golf Club Free Form clubhouse – inspired by a bamboo leaf

Hillmaru Country Club is situated near Changnyeong County in southern South Korea. The 36-hole golf course, fantastic surroundings and large clubhouse delight club members and visiting golfers alike. The clubhouse was designed by Korean architect Kyeong Sik Yoon. The unique design comprises a floor area of 5,000 m2 and includes a foyer, a restaurant, various bars, a wellness area and a shop. The architectural shape of the entire building resembles a bamboo leaf. Ecology, transparency, brightness and flexibility were central requirements for the project. Timber was the preferred raw material thanks to its natural and aesthetic material properties. The digital implementation planning required a mathematically precise determination of the desired form that fulfilled all requirements. In this case, a NURBS model was created using the computer graphics software Rhinoceros, and this model also formed the basis for data communication with the architect.
