Future living timber element building for housing tailored to the elderly

The old-age mission statement of the municipality pointed to the fact that Bottighofen lacked the appropriate infrastructure and care options for its elderly residents. The subsequent competition was won by the architecture firm Affolter & Kempter, who submitted a project for a generation-friendly development consisting of two three-storey buildings.

The construction work began in the autumn of 2016. We were part of a consortium and responsible for the production and erection of the three-storey wood element construction.

The ‘future living complex’ development in Bottighofen has been inhabited since the beginning of 2018. The two three-storey buildings are arranged in a T shape and are connected to each other by a wheelchair-accessible bridge. 20 rental apartments, one care unit with 20 beds, communal rooms and a cafeteria, as well as a hairdresser’s and pedicure salon, form the intergenerational residential complex.
