School building pilot project for the school of the future

Following a public tender, Blumer-Lehmann AG was awarded the contract to deliver the ‘flying classroom DFK 1.0’ school building pilot project in Berlin. Together with the urban planners, we developed a flexible modular construction in duplicate for two sites in Berlin’s Schöneberg district. The DFK 1.0 is the basis for an innovative school building concept that takes into account the constant increase in pupil numbers as well as modern forms of learning and recreation.

Both pilot school buildings in Berlin-Schöneberg are almost entirely comprised of wood. For the children and teaching staff, this creates a pleasant indoor climate for learning, playing, eating and resting. The single-storey modular construction with larch facade and continuous arcade features six classrooms measuring 60 m2 and two classrooms of 40 m2 as well as two staff rooms, a kitchenette, wet rooms and storage rooms.
