A modular emergency housing project

The Broothuuse development was designed as a modular construction made of prefabricated wood elements and consists of three buildings (two residential buildings and a central structure with communal space and utility rooms). The complex was designed to enable residents to lead a communal lifestyle while simultaneously maintaining their privacy.

The modular construction and materials used – which exclusively comprised Swiss fir and glass – selected for their long service life and value retention, and allow for rapid dismantling and reassembly at another location. Thanks to the construction materials used and the heat recovery system, the development is well below the limits of the 2000-watt society and is therefore a pioneering construction. Brothuuse is large enough to accommodate 50 people.
