New warehouse constructed from timber

On a trading estate in Hausen in the canton of Aargau, a new three-storey warehouse for plant specialist Hortima blends seamlessly into its environment and yet still makes an impression. Two core specifications shaped the form and character of the building: a column-free design and the greatest possible warehousing space on the basement level. The service delivered by Blumer-Lehmann AG included planning, producing and implementing the timber construction as well as coordinating other individual works such as the windows and facade.

The warehouse and infrastructure area are located on the ground floor. A striking feature here is the building’s open space three-hinged frame with its overhanging facade and sloped gable roof. Large-scale panels of Douglas fir were used for the building’s longitudinal facades and are visible from inside the warehouse. OSB panels were used to clad the walls and ceilings in the offices, meeting rooms and staff lounge.
